Penney & Thurston
The Davistown Museum has on exhibit a very uncommon Penney & Thurston
Co. adjustable wrench. This obscure, yet historically important Maine
wrench-maker is not listed in DATM (Nelson 1999). Thank you to the Missouri Valley Wrench
Club Newsletter for the following: "The Penney & Thurston wrench is
patent No. 44,653 issued Oct. 11, 1864. It was described in the Nov.
26, 1864, Scientific American." This tool is in the Museum's
Archaeology of Tools, Industrial
Revolution: Other Factory-Made Tools exhibit.
For more information and a photograph of another Penney & Thurston
wrench see the Registry of Maine
Toolmakers listing for Penney & Thurston.
